Renowned for its friendly relaxing atmosphere, the three star Rumwell Manor is a delightful Georgian Manor set amidst five acres of landscaped gardens. With stunning country views, it is the ideal base for leisure guests wishing to explore the many and varied attractions to be found in Somerset and the West Country.
The immediate site of what is now known as Rumwell Hall comprises two former properties anciently known as Homelands and Dodhouse. These lay in the tithing of Rumwell and Hundred of Hull within the manor of Taunton Deane. Formerly held by Solomon Andrewes, they passed to John Colborne and in 1670, following Colborne's death, to his widow Grace, being known subsequently as Colborne's.
Following a string of illustrious owners over the course of the next three hundred years, it is our understanding that the property was converted into a Bed & Breakfast/Guest House in the late 1970's and that it became a Hotel around the late 1980's, when the stable block and coach-house wing were converted into 10 additional bedrooms and a Conference Room.
The Coles family took over the Hotel in August 1991 and continue to own and manage the property to the present day.
The Hotel offers twenty spacious, well-appointed bedrooms, the excellent Blackdown Restaurant and comfortable bar and lounge areas in which to relax in.
The Main House bedrooms are located in the original Georgian Manor House and offer a choice of double or twin-bedded rooms - with a romantic Four Poster also available.
There are ten of these superior rooms and the majority of them are particularly spacious, with delightful views of the surrounding countryside or hotel’s landscaped gardens.
The Courtyard wing is situated just a few paces to the rear of the Main House - across a cobbled walkway.
This wing contains the standard bedrooms - all ten of which are comfortably decorated and furnished. Whilst these rooms may be more compact than those in the Main House, all offer either double or twin beds and a number have convenient ground floor access.
Blackdown Restaurant is the perfect venue in which to enjoy a tempting meal, boasting menus of imaginative dishes to meet the most discerning of appetites, accompanied by an extensive wine list to enhance the dining experience.
This historical establishment elegantly combines the traditional and the contemporary to provide an enviable base for any excursion to the West Country.
