Originally built in 1870 as the summer home for the Bishop of Portsmouth Luccombe Hall Country House Hotel commands an enviable cliff-top location. With the aptly named Grand View Tea Gardens offering spectacular views across Sandown Bay to the distant West Sussex coast and impressive sea views from many bedrooms, the setting is truly breathtaking. Situated in Shanklin, officially named the sunniest place in the UK in 2008, there is plenty of opportunity to make the most of the surroundings. Accommodation is presented in a delightful selection of spacious and attractively furnished, bedrooms all completed with an array of modern amenities. The Grand View Restaurant certainly lives up to its name with views across the gardens and the sea. The restaurant has been recently refurbished to a high standard and benefits from the addition of a conservatory area ideal for a romantic meal on a summers evening. The four-course Table D’hôte menu changes on a daily basis and includes original and exciting vegetarian dishes. Island renowned Head Chef, Michael Fuller is proud to offer a selection of traditional and more creative dishes with homemade desserts a speciality. Special diets can usually be catered for with advance notification. The menu is complemented by an extensive wine list of over thirty wines from around the world. Luccombe Hall’s extensive onsite sporting facilities include both indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, a mini putting green, table tennis, weights, mini gym and a squash court exclusively for the use of patrons. If relaxation is more on your mind then the “Spacuzzi”, sauna and treatment room with a wide range of massages and therapies have that covered too! After a day of making the most of the hotels amenities or enjoying a coastal walk, the Bishops Bar is the ideal venue for a pre-dinner aperitif. Especially cosy in the winter is the Bishops Snug which offers secluded seating and a roaring open fire.
