Situated on the Criccieth Village Green commanding magnificent views of Cardigan Bay, The Lion Hotel which dates back to 1731 has been tastefully developed and extended from an Olde Inn into the Hotel it is today offering a unique personal service of friendliness, comfort and true hospitality.
All bedrooms have en suite facilities and offer remote control colour television, direct-dial telephone, radio, alarm clock, hairdryers and a complimentary tea and coffee tray. A lift is installed for the comfort of our guests and specially adapted bedrooms for the disabled are available.
A recent addition to the Lion Hotel - the Castle View Cottage is a development of twelve en-suite bedrooms of an exceptional standard. Each room is centrally heated and includes remote control colour television, direct dial telephone, hairdryer, trouser press and tea/coffee making facilities. The six first floor rooms have spectacular views of the Castle, mountains and sea - making the Cottage a most welcome addition.
In the elegant Pink Restaurant you can enjoy a mouth-watering selection of freshly prepared local produce from a three course Table d'Hôte or à la Carte Dinner Menus complemented by our extensive Wine List. Traditional Sunday Luncheons are also served each week. A varied Entertainment Programme is scheduled throughout the year, which always includes dancing, with the Restaurant bar open on these evenings. In the recently refurbished Lounge Bar, guests can enjoy a game of pool or a chat with one of the local characters. Also on offer - occasional live entertainment. A large selection of bar snacks can be enjoyed all day from midday. The separate Cocktail Bar is the ideal place for residents and their guests to enjoy an aperitif or a quiet, late night tipple.
Criccieth itself is an unspoilt seaside town facing due south, with two glorious beaches divided by the headland, on which sits the 700-year-old castle. The bathing is safe and there is plenty of opportunity for sailing, sea and river fishing, country walks and riding. The local 18-hole golf course will challenge any for the beauty of its surroundings. Concessionary rates are available to all Hotel Guests.
This is ideal location both for holidaymakers who want a restful seaside holiday and for visitors who wish to tour Snowdonia or those who wish to mix the two. Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales , is but a few miles away. Criccieth is ideal for year round holidays, the winters being mild and the weather in spring and early summer is pleasantly warm, providing an excellent time for early, off-season breaks. Situated, as it is, at the northern end of Cardigan Bay, Criccieth faces south and benefits from being in the path of the Gulf Stream for its mild weather. Criccieth is now easily accessible, both by road and rail with the new expressway now completed - linked to the M56 and then M6, or the M54 and then A5 from the Midlands and South. The Cambrian coast railway line is linked to Birmingham New Street and offers a beautiful scenic journey.
The Lion Hotel is the ideal base from which to explore the lovely Llyn Peninsular and, of course, Snowdonia. Both offer a wealth of places of interest and beauty to visit.
