Set amidst The Lake District’s most dramatic fells in the picturesque Langdale Valley, the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel nestles beneath the Langdale Pikes and Pavey Ark in six acres of mature gardens and pasture. The hotel is of historical interest being built on the site of a medieval settlement and it enjoys the most breathtaking views at every point of the compass.

All bedrooms enjoy the most dramatic of views, whether over Stickle Beck as it tumbles down the fellside, to the Pikes themselves all dominant and brooding or Lingmoor as she forms the long south easterly side of the valley. Clustered around the head of the dale are some of the giants of Lakeland, such as Bowfell, Crinkle Crags and the Langdale Pikes. The views are simply stunning and well worth the climb!
The hotel can organise experienced guides for your walks to help you get the most from your trip. The National Trust protects about a quarter of the Lake District National Park, and includes many popular places of interest such as Aira Force, Tarn Hows, Scafell Pike, and most of the nearby towns and villages, such as Ullswater, Coniston, Grasmere, Eskdale and the Langdale valleys.
Grizedale Visitor centre is an excellent place to go for all the family. It is run by the Forestry Commission and provides cycling trails, art and sculpture in the forests, orienteering, good walking and many photo opportunities. Grizedale is south of Hawkshead and is open all year. The many nearby lakes provide water skiing, sailing, mountain biking, kayaking and boat hire and cruises and fishing trips on Trout rivers and Lake Fishing for Trout, Pike, Perch and Arctic Char can be arranged on request.
