Located in the Vale of White Horse, close to Oxford and the Cotswolds, Fallowfields Country House Hotel is a stunning country house hotel with over 300 years of history. Once the home of the Begum Aga Khan, it offers beautiful luxury accommodation where you will be looked after by a most professional and dedicated staff team. Independently owned by the Lloyd family and set in twelve acres of mature trees, paddocks, orchard and magnificent gardens, the hotel offers an exquisite, relaxing retreat offering visitors the opportunity to experience the awesome beauty of the English countryside whatever the season.
With inviting high thread count linens, wonderfully comfortable beds and tranquil views of the gardens and countryside, the guest rooms here are simply a joy to relax in. All rooms have power showers, most have Jacuzzis, some have four-poster beds and antique furniture. The luxury king-size beds are splittable if you do need a twin bedded room. All have televisions; free wireless Internet access and en suite bathrooms. A laundry and ironing service is also available.
Dining here is a most sublime experience with the hotel’s new food philosophy culminating in Fallowfields being voted Tourism South East’s Small Hotel of the Year 2005 & 2007 and one of the top three restaurants in Oxfordshire. The ethos is to serve top-quality seasonal food that bursts with flavour. To support this they have begun a five-year project to achieve self-sufficiency in the restaurant food, as far as possible.
Fallowfields’ acre or so of kitchen garden was extended in Autumn 2007 and since January they have introduced chickens, quail, ducks, geese and pigs, some of which are housed within the fruit orchards. Menus focus on fresh produce from the prolific kitchen garden and farm, supplemented with products from carefully selected local suppliers.
Creating a true connection with ‘real’ food is a way of life at Fallowfields. The aim is for your vegetables and herbs to be served within hours, if not minutes of harvesting and all ingredients are selected for their taste. In addition, bread and muffins are freshly made every day and biscuits, scones, cakes, chutneys and jams are also produced in the kitchens.
When dining in the restaurant, you can see from the ‘food miles’ printed on the daily changing menus whether your vegetables and meat have travelled the few yards from Fallowfields’ garden and farm or a few miles from a local producer.
Activities here are quite unique, here you will have the opportunity to get close or even hands on with some of the world’s most amazing birds. Witness the speed of the falcons as they stoop to the lure, or admire the silence of the owls as they gently glide towards your gloved fist. The birds sit out on the lawn most days (and always on request) and help warn off any beasties which might munch the wonderful kitchen garden produce without permission.
Fallowfields Falconry is an independent business situated at Fallowfields Hotel where you can experience at first hand the unique beauty of raptors and learn to appreciate the noble art of falconry, its history and its future. From one-on-one lessons to arena displays, falconry at Fallowfields will create magical memories of your stay.
If you need to be pampered, then arrange for Penny, the local therapist to give you a massage or beauty treatment in your room. She is qualified in Indian Head massage and Swedish massage and can soothe away the aches and pains of a busy week.
Other activities that can be arranged during your stay include; croquet on the lawn, local walks, clay pigeon shooting, archery & catapulting, gun dog displays & agility demos, pony rides and tennis lessons.
