The Glen Usk Hotel is situated in the centre of this pretty spa town, directly opposite Temple Gardens and just a short walk to the shops. After a day exploring mid-Wales you can be sure of a warm welcome from the General Manager Anne Sharples and her staff, together with friendly service and comfortable accommodation. And when it comes to food, you will not be disappointed. Start each day with a hearty breakfast, and in the evening look forward to a mouth-watering three-course dinner menu guaranteed to satisfy the healthiest of holiday appetites.
The hotel features a spacious bar lounge and restaurant, both of which overlook Temple Gardens, and a function room with dance floor where entertainment is regularly held. There's also a newly renovated sun veranda overlooking Temple Gardens which is a lovely spot to while away an hour on a sunny day.
All seventy-nine bedrooms are en suite and feature colour TV and tea and coffee making facilities. There is a lift to all floors, and limited free car parking is available.
It was the Romans who were first to appreciate the beauty and value of Llandrindod Wells, followed centuries later by King Charles II who regularly came to take the health-giving spring waters. But it was the Victorians who developed the town into one of the most fashionable Spa towns in Britain, adorning its buildings with the turrets, towers, balustrades and balconies so typical of the period. Many reminders of this elegant era remain, and the town still retains a genteel atmosphere reminiscent of a bygone age.
You can still visit the Pump Room where it was once possible to take the mineral rich waters, and a wander through Rock Park with its waterfalls and nature trails is a must. The Radnorshire Museum has many items of local interest on display, and the National Cycle exhibition is based in the town, featuring more than 120 historic cycles and a fascinating array of memorabilia. Pretty Temple Gardens is the perfect place to relax and watch the world go by, whilst for the more energetic there is a purpose-built indoor bowling centre, three magnificent outdoor bowling greens, a golf course, lovely fishing lake and nature trails across the magnificent surrounding hills.
Out and about, there's also a wonderful range of things to do and places to see. The beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park is closeby, and medieval Powis Castle and its world famous garden, is well worth a visit, as are the historical market towns of Presteigne and Knighton. Take a memorable drive through the lovely Elan Valley where the Visitor Centre unfolds the history of its magnificent reservoirs and dams, or enjoy a day at the seaside in Aberystwyth. There's bargains galore at the Royal Welsh Crystal Factory, and the Royal Welsh Showground at nearby Builth Wells regularly holds agricultural shows, craft fairs and car rallies.
