Waking to the sound of birdsong and village tranquillity; being within walking distance of the Chesil Fleet and the World Heritage coast; and being well-located for the region's major towns and business hubs - welcome to The Heritage Restaurant and Rooms.

A stay here offers an outstanding experience whatever the reason. Business visitors enjoy the tranquil village setting - a refreshing change after the frenzy of a busy day; leisure visitors relish the country and coastal walks straight from the front door.

But the location is just one of the many things that make staying at The Heritage a pleasure...

There can be few establishments that offer such sublime accommodation, from the moment you arrive and are welcomed by home-baked biscuits, you will realise that this is a place to experience the ultimate in hospitality and attentive service. Each guestroom is individually styled, fully en suite, comfortable and spacious - what more could you want in your Chickerell "home"?  Television, video player, WIFI, radio alarm clock and direct dial telephone - yes, they are here too, not to mention the well-stocked refreshments tray...

In the bathrooms, it's your choice whether it's a soak in the bath or an invigorating shower - all bathrooms have both facilities. To provide that little extra, caring ‘finishing touch’ a range of complimentary toiletries will enhance your relaxation.

After a truly wonderful night’s sleep, your thoughts (and nose) will turn to breakfast… local produce abounds at breakfast, from the healthy-option local probiotic yoghurts to the tempting full Dorset breakfast.  Don't overlook the deluxe "Portland Porridge" made with local farm cream, or the brown rice kedgeree and Anne's renowned scrambled eggs

After a hard day's enjoyment and when it’s time to dine, you will be treated to another feast of the senses. The restaurant is open daily for lunch from Tuesday to Sunday, and for dinner from Monday to Saturday. The style of cooking is contemporary British combined with International.  The exception being the ‘Set on Sundays’ table d’hôte lunch menu, the centrepiece of which is, of course, a traditional roast. The chefs, motivated by Anne's AA rosette experience, are encouraged to create new dishes to excite weary palates and aim to give you something exciting and different while retaining some ‘comfort’ elements. The concise menus change frequently to create seasonal variation... and anticipation. There is a strong commitment here to supporting local produce and seasonal availability.  Especially during the long winter months, though the Chefs like occasionally to put a little ‘sunshine’ from abroad on your plates!

If you can manage to drag yourself away from the delights inside, then outside has an enormous amount to offer. West Dorset is steeped in history and beauty and offers endless opportunities for discovery and relaxation.

Almost on the Heritage's doorstep, the unique, 17-mile long Chesil Beach
forms the natural inland water "fleet" alongside of which there are
outstanding coastal walks. Visit the numerous sites made famous by Thomas
Hardy, revert to your childhood in the Teddy Bear Museum in Dorchester, or
become "culture vultures" and tour the many historic houses, castle and
museums... your visit to the area just won't be long enough!

The nearest town to The Heritage is Weymouth - whose popularity as a seaside
resort is attributed to King George 111 who came to bathe in the sea as a
health cure for his nervous disorder. The beach is superb and consists of
sand which sweeps around the bay changing to shingle along the extended
promenade. Weymouth's famous sand modeller always attracts interest.  And
Weymouth has much more to offer than just the beach. As one would expect of
a coastal resort, water sports feature prominently in the list of activities
- as has been underlined by its selection for the 2012 Olympics and
Paralympics. With excellent wind conditions all year round the waters of
Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour have a magnetic appeal for windsurfers and
dinghy sailors, and divers come to the area to explore the wrecks lying
around the coast. As one of the top angling venues in the country Weymouth
offers all types of fishing, from the child's rod dangled from the pier to
deep sea fishing trips which can be booked from one of the charter boats in
the harbour.

Eight miles inland, Dorchester, Dorset's county town, holds the key to the
area's fascinating history - the Roman Town House, the Old Crown Court and
Cells, and the hill-fort of Maiden Castle on the outskirts. The Dorset
County Museum holds the largest collection of Thomas Hardy memorabilia in
the world.  Then of course there are the shops - many of them interesting,
independent retailers.

Heading West from The Heritage, the coastal road offers breathtaking views.
The Swannery and Sub-Tropical gardens at Abbotsbury, and Bridport's West Bay
working harbour are worthy of a daytrip!

There really is so much to see and do. Making The Heritage your relaxing
base for these endless opportunities, you know you have a delicious dinner
and comfortable bed to return to at the end of the day!

Highly recommended!
