The Cliff Hotel is a late Victorian building originally built as a private house situated in a central position on the cliff overlooking Dovercourt Bay. This is an ideal stop over point for European travellers being located just a few minutes from Harwich International Port and all shipping terminals. The local town has a small but varied shopping centre, and the boasts a Blue Flag Award for its beaches with boating lake, putting green, roller skating rink and amusement arcade along the seafront.
A short walk from the Hotel towards Old Harwich is the park with gardens and swings for the children. Old Harwich is a very historic place with a fort dating back to Napoleonic times, and the oldest working cinema in the country restored to its original state.
The bedrooms have all recently been refurbished, all rooms are en-suite with tea/coffee making facilities, television and telephone.
Dining is taken in The Millbay Restaurant which offers excellent views of the harbour. The restaurant menu is mostly traditional English cooking, it is renowned for Sunday luncheon with a choice of two roast meats, fish and vegetarian dishes. The Marine Bar which is also open to non-residents, serves a wide selection of home-cooked bar meals with real ales and other popular beers. It has a very relaxing atmosphere where you can sit and watch the ferries to the continent, cruise liners from around the world or container ships coming in and out of the harbour.
Shades Bar is for the younger or just the young at heart, situated in the basement of the hotel. The bar has a large screen television and four other TV's scattered around, so when the big match is on every one gets a good view. As well as the popular beers there are the latest in trendy drinks and cocktails.
