Built in 1837 as the once home of the Campbell family, Stonefield Castle Hotel is an outstanding example of Scottish Baronial Architecture and a superb base for the discerning traveller to enjoy the splendours of the magnificent Loch Fyne landscapes.
Set within sixty acres of woodland gardens, near the pretty fishing village of Tarbert on The Mull of Kintyre, the hotel stands high on the famous Kintyre peninsula, commanding spectacular views over Loch Fyne. In keeping with its unique setting and character, many of the original period features have been retained to complement the timeless ambience that is Stonefield Castle.
The hotel has thirty-two individually and tastefully decorated en-suite bedrooms boasting stunning views over the gardens and Loch Fyne. Each room, as one would expect from an establishment of such standing is completed with all the amenities and facilities necessary to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
Dinner is taken in Stonefield Castle’s AA Rosette award winning restaurant where guests are offered the opportunity to sample the best of all that is Scottish with locally sourced beef and seafood a specialty. All of the superbly created dishes can of course, be complemented by the hotel’s extensive selection of fine wines .
After dinner, you can choose to relax in the traditional elegance of the wood panelled lounge bar, and in the chillier months perhaps a wee dram a blazing open log fire.
When it comes to recreational and leisure activities, the pretty fishing village of Tarbert is just a short drive from Stonefield Castle and is well worth a visit to see the fishing boats and yachts coming and going. If you are lucky and patient you observe a pod of dolphins that are sometimes to be found in the harbour.
There are many walks and trails in the area to suit all hikers and ramblers and something not to be missed is a visit to the amazing Correyvreckan Whirlpool and stunning and remarkable wildlife.
Fly Fishing on Loch Fyne can also be arranged for you along with Horse Trail Riding at the nearby Brenfield Estate.
