The Rutland Arms, a former Coaching Inn built around an historic cobbled courtyard which dates from the reign of Charles II, today still retains many of the original building’s period features, thus creating an hotel of distinct charm and character.

Located in the heart of the world famous horse racing town of Newmarket, The Rutland Arms Hotel is the just the place from which to explore. Newmarket is the home of British Horse Racing and the National Stud conducts guided tours from March to September. Also of note is the Horse Racing Museum, just a short walk from the Rutland Arms Hotel.

For the early risers, a morning stroll to the Gallops is something not to be missed; watching the horses out on exercise certainly builds up the appetite for one of the hotel’s hearty breakfasts!

Accommodation is offered in forty-six stylish and charming en-suite bedrooms, all are elegantly furnished and individually designed and perfect for an intimate weekend break or mid week stay for the business traveller.

The newly opened Carriages Restaurant and Bar, which has been awarded an AA Rosette, offers diners the opportunity to enjoy an excellent variety of specially created British and Mediterranean seasonal dishes. To complement your meal, the hotel equally prides itself on its splendid wine selection, with fine wines to suit all palates and budgets. As a more relaxed or more informal alternative, guests can enjoy meals taken in the Rutland’s Nell Gwen Bar and Bistro.

In addition to the obvious links to horse racing, there are many other leisure and recreational opportunities within a short distance of the Rutland. A visit to the area must include a trip to one of the many market towns. In Mildenhall a replica of the impressive hoard of Roman silver tableware, known as the Mildenhall Treasure, can be viewed at the local museum. The ‘Rioters Trail’ in Littleport depicts the famous bread riots of 1816, when five men were hung and five others transported as convicts to Australia. The local fur and flint trade is depicted at the Heritage Centre in Brandon and Brandon Country Park provides a ideal country escape. Surrounding Brandon is Thetford Forest, a Mecca for trekking, orienteering, rough track cycling or just pure enjoyment of the forest scape. At the heart of the forest is the High Lodge Visitors Centre. Or for a city excursion, the historic town of Cambridge is only a short drive from Newmarket.
