The White Cliffs is set in the heart of the picturesque village of St. Margaret's-at-Cliffe under a mile from the beautiful beach at St. Margaret's Bay and just ten minutes drive from the port and Cruise Terminal at Dover, yet still ranks as one of White Cliffs Country's best-kept secrets. It's centred around an archetypal Kentish weather-boarded inn that has been sympathetically restored to a 'barefoot' luxury venue complete with a 'micro spa', a haven of peace and tranquility up above the hotel and restaurant.
With parts of the building dating back to Elizabethan times, the hotel has a stylish, contemporary feel without compromising the charm of this delightful historic establishment. In winter, guests can warm themselves by our roaring log fire whilst in summer they are welcome to enjoy the sun in our rose-filled walled garden.
Accommodation is offered in a total of sixteen rooms, all en suite and individually named and furnished. Nine of the bedrooms rooms in the mews overlook the walled garden, whilst upstairs in the main house are four superior rooms and two sumptuous four-poster rooms, which have been newly refurbished in a stunning, contemporary style. All beds have hypo-allergenic feather pillows, cosy goose down quilts and crisp white linen. Twenty-first century comforts abound here, crisp cotton linen, TVs, DVD & CD players, free broadband WIFI and all the 'little extra' home comforts you would expect from a hotel of this quality. There is, of course, ample parking should you come by car.
Dining here is sublime and taken in The Bay Restaurant, the beating heart of the hotel and headed up by Gavin Oakley, the creative mastermind behind nearby award-winning Wallett's Court Country House Hotel. He brings his own brand of imagination and flair that has seen his team win recognition with entries in The Good Food Guide, a 2 rosette award in The AA Best Restaurant Guide and many other plaudits from national and international guides and in the press.
Pampering is also on the menu here, in the shape of the Loft Micro Spa which is an integral part of the hotel’s vision to create a unique experience, a haven for guests to relax and rejuvenate away from the stresses of the world in a hidden and intimate retreat. The select list of treatments have been carefully chosen by in-house expert therapist Ben Barnett for their healing power to mend both the body and mind affording you the most essential luxury of peace to counteract the negative effects of anxiety or stress. All use a range of spa products which are 100% gentle, handmade, organic, cruelty free, 100% vegetarian and environmentally friendly.
If you can drag yourself away from the confines of the hotel (and we know it will be difficult!) White Cliffs Country has a legacy of castles, historic monuments and interesting places to visit. Dover Castle is splendidly situated on the cliffs above the sea. The nearby seaside town of Deal is worth a visit and a few miles inland is the Cathedral city of Canterbury. If golf is your bag then look no further; with some of the country’s finest links courses including Royal St. Georges at Sandwich and Deal Cinque Ports within half an hour’s drive.
